The Monongahela River

Sandcastle Waterpark is one of the coolest Pennsylvania Amusement Parks. Located just 12 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. It's the sister park to Kennywood and Idlewild Parks .

I'm sure you're wondering what makes Sandcastle Water Park so cool:

  • Could it be the Mon Tsunami Wave Pool? It feels like your standing in the ocean without any worries!
  • How about 15 twisting, turning, plunging and turning Waterslides? Each waterslide is unique in its own way, from speed slides to a closed in slide.
  • Or the Worlds Largest Hot Tub, how unique is that?
  • And my favorite "The Lazy River" a gently flowing stream that you can float on an inner-tube for hours.
  • Adult pools
  • Children pools, including the 1 ½ foot deep Tad Pool and Wet Willie Waterworks.

Sandcastle officially opened for business July 1989. It was originally to be named "Splashdown" but finally after much debate "Sandcastle" got the votes. The 67-acre site now known as, Sandcastle Water Park, sits on was originally a railroad yard for U.S. Steel.

Sun-Stars-Music-Movies-Nightclubs-
Sandcastle Water Park has it all!

Just because Sandcastle is a Water Park it doesn't mean it the excitement has to stop when the sun goes down. In fact that's when things really start heating up! And even though there are areas for adults there are also attractions for the entire family to enjoy under the stars.

Every Saturday evening adults can enjoy live entertainment with local bands, great food and drinks. Sunday evening is Jukebox night with DJ's and dancing to the oldies for the older visitors.

How about enjoying a good old-fashioned family dive in movie? Cuddle up with your kids and enjoy a good family movie under the stars. At dusk the wave pool transforms into a movie theater along with boardwalk games before and after the movie.

Sandcastle Waterpark has all kinds of events planned throughout the season. For instance, how about bringing your dog along for a cool swim? They call it "Dog Days" talk about having fun with your best friend. Or you can join in the fun during Pittsburgh Irish Festival and Festa Italiania! You can always depend on Sandcastle Waterpark to build family memories.

Don't miss the unique celebrations during Pittsburgh's 150th birthday celebrations. You can bet Sandcastle Waterpark will be included in Pittsburgh's birthday celebrations, parades and festivals. It's a special time to visit the Laurel Highlands, don't let this opportunity pass you by.

Best Times to Visit

According to the folks at Sandcastle, June is the least busy month. If you don't mind overcast days or a bit of rain, Sandcastle attractions remain open even in the rain unless the weather is severe. If the water slides and swimming pools have to close for more than 60 minutes during the course of a day, then you'll get a 1/2 price ticket for your next visit. If the waterpark is forced to close early, then a complimentary pass will be given.
