The Grand view point Hotel

by Donna Price
(Pittsburgh PA USA)

My grand parents loved to go for long drives in the country. Every summer we would spend a few days traveling on Route 30, and one of my most memorable places to visit was the The Grand View Point Hotel. You could see it as we rounded the bend and we knew we were going to eat lunch soon. My grandmother had a fear of ships, she knew it was built to look like a ship but we couldn't get her to stay for the night. That was the one thing I never did get a chance to do was stay over night there. My Grand parents have long since past I still go on the those long trips to the Grand View Point Hotel eating lunch as a child.

No place like home
by: Peggy (Albert) Baker

I graduated from Richland High School in the 50's. Never wanted to leave home, but jobs forced us to move.

My senior prom was at Bedford Springs Hotel. I was enchanted as 4 teens rounded the corner & saw the grounds. Little did I realize that night the future the place would be to me. Two years later I was hired as a PBX operator. A handsome bellhop was soon my steady bf. We drove all over those country roads & the ship hotel. How we loved the area, The spaghetti at Shawnee Inn, 5 cent ice cream cones, Bedford skating rink. We were married in Feb 56 & rented an apartment at the mansion, Arnold Apts. We return each summer for a month to our beloved Pennsylvania.

Route 30 Memories
by: Patricia

Hi Donna,

I'm sure the memories of spending those times with your grandparent are priceless. Route 30 has always been such a scenic road to travel and still is. I still love going to the area and looking out over the mountains and valley's. We're so lucky to have grown up in such a beautiful part of the United States. We really didn't need to spend a lot of money on expensive vacations and destinations, the landmarks and old mountain roads really gave us all we needed to make memories.

Thanks for sharing your memories with us,

Patricia
