LADY WITH THE RED SHAWL

by DEE BISHOP

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS ABOUT THE MYSTERIOUS LADY WITH A RED SHAWL.
THIS MORNING AT OLD BEDFORD VILLAGE A YOUNG TEENAGE BOY LEFT CAMP TO GO TO THE WOODS FOR HIS MORNING CONSTITUTION. WHEN HE RETURNED HE ASKED IF WE SAW A WOMAN ALL HUNCHED OVER WEARING A BRIGHT RED SHAWL CARRYING A PITCH FORK AND A BAG. WE ALL SAID NO. HE EXPLAINED THAT WHEN HE WAS DOING HIS DUTY, HE NOTICED HER WALKING PAST HIM AND WENT INTO THE WOODS. HE LOOKED UP AND SHE HAD VANISHED. HE STATED HE DIDN'T HEAR HER FOOTSTEPS ON THE LEAVES OR GROUND. IT WAS WEIRD. IT WAS POURING RAIN AND NO ONE WAS DRESSED IN PERIOD CLOTHING IN THAT WE WERE ALL LEAVING EARLY. WE ALL DISCUSSED IT AND KNEW IT HAD TO BE A SPIRIT IN THAT SOME OF US HAD SEEN OTHER EVENTS IN OTHER LOCATIONS NOT IN BEDFORD. SO THIS PROMPTED ME TO ASK IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A LADY WHO HAD ONCE LIVED BY OLD BEDFORD VILLAGE OR HAD ANYONE ELSE SEEN HER.
THANKS, MISS D

by: Carmella

i believe that i saw this lady in the red shawl at old Bedford village probably about six or seven years ago. i was a little disoriented in the village and was trying to find my group of kids from school that i went with, i asked her for directions and she looked right at me but didn't say a word as if to say who knows and then led me to the cometary on the grounds straight to a grave i can't remember the name on the headstone tho. then she just vanished into thin air right there beside me.

Woman in Period Clothes
by: Mark Bonekowski

I joined a group of WWII reenactors at Bedford in November of 2007. We bivouacked at the gunsmith house. At midnight, I went out to the shed to get wood for our buck stove. It was misty. As I gathered some firewood I glanced up an noticed a woman in colonial period attire walking toward the inn. I thought nothing of it at first. But then I thought, there were only WWII reenacters at the village. I quickly glanced back and she had disappeared.

Other sightings
by: Worked at OBV

I worked at Old Bedford Village for two seasons as the special events coordinator. Yes, there are quite a few stories that I have heard. As the events coordinator, I spent a lot of nights there with different re-enactors. You can see a lady holding a candle looking out the window on the top floor in house 2. While taking down the house to move it to OBV, a skeleton was found burried under the floor boards. In house 3 things are taken out of it and moved to another house. I have also seen the lady with the red shaw. There is a lot of activity near the church too.

Guess What
by: 12 year old writer

Actually for the murder mystery they talked about a past murder that happened in one of the buildings she was reported to wear a red cloak with an old fashion cheese cutter around her neck. So yeah I'll back you up 100 percent.

Old Bedford Village
by: Patricia

Hello Miss D.,

I'd really like to hear more ghostly tales about the Old Bedford Village. I was hoping you would get a reply about the Lady in the Red Shaw.

The last time I was visiting Bedford and the Old Bedford Village I took a lot of pictures and actually got several ghostly orbs in different buildings, especially in the church. I spent some time in the church by myself and I kept feeling like someone was watching me, then I caught a glimpse of a shawdow moving around the organ, but when I approached the area I didn't see anyone or anything that could have made those shadows.

I'm sure there are many more ghostly tales about the Old Bedford Village.
