Ethnic Festival (Cambria City, Johnstown) Folk Fest (Downtown Johnstown)

The Ethnic Festival became popular in Johnstown due to the churches in Cambria City. The public can view the churches, attend services and eat "ethnic food" that the churches make.

There also used to be ethnic food vendors in Cambria City at the festival but that has since moved to the FolkFest held in downtown Johnstown at the same time. Native Johnstowners attend the "ethnic festival" because this festival was created to support the churches.

The folkfest in downtown Johnstown means nothing to me because I feel that it should all be held in Cambria City where it originally began.
The ethnic festival is usually held the last weekend of August or first weekend of Sept.

Years and Tears Ago
by: Hungarian-Finn

Wish I appreciated this more when I was a child;
my grandparents were long time members of St Emerich church. I did go back and attended the festival a few years ago. Wonder what happened to the old photos from the parish and those from the American Hungarian Citizens Club. Would give the world to hear those voices and see those beautiful faces again, but that was years and tears ago. Can never go back, except in dreams.
Johnstown will always be the most beautiful place on earth to me.

First time at Festival.
by: Anonymous

I greatly enjoyed my 1st time at your folk fest. My boyfriend brought me, and told me about when he went to school there(many years ago). We also went into Saint Mary's where he also attended church with his parents.
My reason for contacting you is to get the recipe for "Chereghi" also my first.
If someone would be so kind to email it to me. His Mom, bless her could not remember how to make them.
My email address is, tsprung@verizon.net...
Thank you for the great time I had.

Ethnic Festival
by: Steve

Nice to see everyone's interest in the Labor Day Weekend Cambria City Ethnic Festival.
As mentioned previously, the Cambria City Ethnic Festival will be held in the same general location, approx 1st-5th Avenues in Cambria City again this year. I'm not positive if all of the participants have firmed up their plans yet, the festival as it had previously been held, should be mostly the same this year.
We've set up a simple website that hopefully will be updated with bands, performance locations, events, as this info becomes available. This website is sort of unofficial though should contain timely and accurate information.

Ethnic Festival "unique"
by: Joan

We have enjoyed the unique atmosphere of the Cambria City Ethnic Festival for a number of years. The beautiful churches, wonderful food and hospitality, and sense of tradition invited us back each year. The relocation of the Johnstown Folk Fest to the downtown area is absolutely meaningless for us......just another "carnival atmosphere".

2009 Ethnic Festival
by: Steve

The Cambria City Ethnic Festival WILL be held again this year Labor Day Weekend(Fri eve,Sat,Sun), just as in years past.
With the recent consolidation of the Roman Catholic Parishes in Cambria City, the Festival will still be held at St Mary's Byzantine Catholic Pavilion, Aces, and hopefully with participation from the new Resurrection Parish (previously St Stephen's, next to St. Marys). More to come as they will be celebration their 1st service 7/26/09.
We look forward to everyone enjoying this yearly tradition.
Please call St. Mary's if you have any questions.

Johnstown Folk Fest
by: Patricia

This is one of the nicest Folk Festivals in Central Pennsylvania and I just heard rumor that 2008 is the last festival. I have no idea why it is being discontinued. They always seem to have a great turnout, fantistic vendors and exciting entertainment. It just don't make sense to me.

Thanks for submitting it this year,

Patricia
