Coal Field Ghost

by Adam Zwolinski
(Wanamie, Pennsylvania, USA)

The location of my story is in the woods behind Wanamie, PA which is an old coal mining town. The woods are endless. I ride my dirt bike through the woods all of the time. One afternoon as I was riding through, I looked up ahead of the path and I saw a man walk out of the woods and right to the center of the wide path. This man was dressed in jeans, a flannel shirt, and oddly enough a miners helmet with a light on it. I stopped my bike and shut it off. As I did this the man turned and stared at me. We stared at each other for what seemed like quite a few minutes but was really no more that 40 seconds. The man after staring at me, turned and continued across the path and into the woods. When he hit the tree line I started my bike and rode up to where he was. When I looked in the woods, no one was there whatsoever. I looked into the woods and shouted is anyone there and got no response. It didn't surprise me in the least. That general area was big into anthracite coal mining for a few hundred years. I'm more than sure that people were killed in those mines and the spirits are not at peace at all. Overall it was a different experience. When I discovered that no one was there when I rode up I got so freaked out I didn't go near that particular path for about a month.
